Canada Day in London 2009

July 1st in Trafalgar Square
For the last four years Canada Day has proved a celebration not only at home, but around the world. July 1st, 2009 followed the recent tradition of bringing Canada Day to the United Kingdom by demonstrating the enthusiastic spirit and culture of Canadians in Trafalgar Square, London. Rainmaker, along with First Capital, Petro-Canada and Canadian Affair created an event packed with performances, food and contests which made the day complete.
The event featured entertainment in the form of music, comedy and a road hockey tournament known as the “Trafalgar Cup”, which took place in the middle of the square. NHL alumni Perry Berezan and Colin Patterson were in London to join in the tournament and take part in the Canada Day celebrations. Other popular Canadian acts such as Amy Nelson, Daniel Bernhard, Drew McCreadie, Alexandria Beck and the Stereos could be seen and heard on the stage throughout the day as well. Spectators were also immersed into the culture of the country by feasting on bison burgers, Canadian beer and Tim Horton’s coffee.
Having been surrounded by all things Canadian and in the presence of some great Canadian traditions, the 142nd birthday of Canada was truly successful in London, receiving lots of positive feedback from those who attended. A tradition that will most definitely be carried on in years to come.
